OBRA-Tanzworkshop mit anschließendem Flashmob – Tanzen für ein Ende der Gewalt an Frauen und Mädchen
One Billion Rising (OBR) ist eine globale Bewegung, gegründet von V (ehem. Eve Ensler), welche 2012 ausgerufen hat, ab dem 14. Februar 2013 jedes Jahr den Valentinstag zum V-Day umzubenennen und auf öffentlichen Plätzen und Straßen tanzend, laut, stark und sichtbar für ein Ende der Gewalt an Frauen und Mädchen einzustehen.
Die Choreografie zu dem OBR-Hauptsong »Break the Chain« von Tena Clark wird jedes Jahr weltweit am 14. Februar von abertausenden von Menschen getanzt. Damit zum zehnjährigen Jubiläum nächstes Jahr möglichst viele den Tanz mittanzen können, bietet OBRA (One Billion Rising Austria) unter der Leitung von Aiko Kazuko Kurosaki kostenlose Tanzworkshops an.
Aiko Kazuko Kurosaki ist eine aus Japan stammende und in Wien lebende Performancekünstlerin, Choreografin und Tänzerin. Sie arbeitet an der Schnittstelle zwischen darstellender und bildender Kunst mit Schwerpunktsetzung auf sozial- und umweltkritische Themen. Ko-Initiatorin, künstlerische Leitung und Vorsitzende von OBRA – One Billion Rising Austria – eine künstlerische Kampagne für ein Ende der Gewalt an Frauen und Mädchen.

OBRA-Statement zum 8. März 2022 und der aktuellen Lage
Die aktuellen Ereignisse in Ukraine überschatten die humanitäre Katastrophe in Afghanistan, insbesondere die lebensbedrohende und prekäre Lage der afghanischen Frauen, die Lage in Belarus, Myanmar und weitere Länder auf dieser Welt, die immer noch nicht überstandene Pandemie und die damit einhergehende Spaltung der Gesellschaft – und zudem die immer kritischer werdende Lage der menschengemachten Klimakrise.
Die von der österreichischen Regierung angebotene „Nachbarschaftshilfe“ ist ein Hohn für die verzweifelten flüchtenden Menschen aus den anderen Kriegsgebieten! Das ist, als würde die Regierung sich anmaßen, eine Triage bei den Flüchtenden auszuüben.
Angesichts dieser massiven Wucht und Gewalt kann leicht ein Gefühl der Ohnmacht und Verzweiflung aufkeimen. Kunst kann die Welt nicht retten, aber sie kann uns Hoffnung und die Kraft, weiterzumachen, geben.
Genau so ein stärkendes Kunstprojekt von OBRA war GARDEN OF EMPOWERMENT. In drei mehrwöchigen Online-Workshopreihen wurde ein Video mit dem Song „We Take Action – Geboren aus der Gemeinschaft“ mit allen Teilnehmer*innen erschaffen.
Anlässlich des 111. Internationalen Frauentags am 8. März und angesichts der jetzigen Situation ist es uns ein besonderes Anliegen, dieses empowernde Video noch eimal zu zeigen.

Ein Kurzfilm über das Wegschauen aller Beteiligten bei häuslicher Gewalt
Die Zunahme von häuslicher Gewalt durch die Lockdowns in Zeiten der Pandemie, war die Inspiration zu diesem Kurzfilm. Er zeigt wie sich die Enge des Lebensumfelds durch Ausgansbeschränkungen in Gewalt verwandeln kann. „Hinter verschlossenen Türen“ bezieht die Aspekte der Gewaltursache beim Mann, die Abhängigkeit bei der Frau und die innere und äußere Tabuisierung des Themas mit ein.

Freedom for Olga in Belarus
One Billion Rising is a global campaign, dedicated to the problem violence against women* and girls, which takes place annually on 14 February 2022. More than 130 countries have already joined this action. Belarus is one of them.
In 2016, this action was brought to Minsk, Belarus by Olga Gorbunova, the manager of the shelter for women and children who are victims of domestic violence. Since then, Belarus has been dancing to end violence against women* and girls every year.
On November 9 2021, Olga was detained by belarusian state authorities. It is unknown what charges are pressed against her , however, we assume that she was detained because of her women rights activism – helping women* and children in situations of domestic violence and because of the exercise of her civil rights.
For 18 years, Olga Gorbunova worked in a shelter as a psychologist, a director, and then a manager of the shelter. Some of the unbearable stories that she happened to live and witness were able to be found on a website that was sadly taken down. They were difficult to read. Olga, however, always had the right words to support and comfort those who experienced pain. She also had to defend her clients and herself from the aggressors, pursuing the victims til the end: e.g. they besieged the shelter, wrote endless complaints to all authorities.
Olga has done a lot for women* and children in Belarus for their safety – physical, psychological and legal. In an authoritarian country where mass repressions and persecution have been taking place since 1999 and intensified since 2020, Olya has been fighting against gender violence at the cost of her own freedom.
We ask you to dedicate this year’s action to the political prisoner, activist and human rights activist Olga Gorbunova. You can dance with a poster or a T-shirt with her image, you can tag us on Instagram – @free_volya, you can dance to a song translated into Belarusian. Without your support and attention, we will not be able to help Olya and other women political prisoners in Belarus. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. Worldwide, youth are calling for a change in the systems that continue to fail us. We have seen the resurgence of white supremacy, the devastating effects of climate catastrophe, and economic inequality. The Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated the effects of these crises and continues to be felt by the most marginalized today. One of those systems is patriarchy, which creates a culture of domination, violence and suppression. Patriarchy is still the dominant way our culture is organized. It’s time we dismantle the injustice at the heart of the system.
This contest challenges youth (high school students (United States) & college students (across the globe) ages 13-24) to envision how they might change the larger societal system of patriarchy to create an accepting society through visual art, music, essay, story, poetry, video, photography, and other creative forms. The Dismantle Patriarchy contest consists of two categories of competition: high school (US Only) and college (the world). Ten winners from each category will receive $1,000 (USD) prizes.

Patriarchy [ pey-tree-ahr-kee ]: Patriarchy is a system of power whereby masculinity and men are marked as inherently more worthy than femininity and women. This puts men on top, giving them more access to power, resources, and even knowledge. It tells women that they deserve less: less money, less freedom, less strength. And it erases people who don’t ascribe to traditional gender roles, too often with violence.
Tell Us. How would you Dismantle Patriarchy? Bring your creative voice to this contest! Tell us, in whatever creative method reflects your project, and you just might win an award for your idea. Submissions can be in the form of essay, poetry, music, art, photography, film, etc.

Women = cisgender, transgender, and those who hold fluid identities that are subject to gender-based violence.
We are experiencing the devastating consequences of the ongoing vicious systems of patriarchy, imperialism, capitalism and racism on the world today. We see this destructive battle for power fought over women’s bodies and the body of the earth. The devastation cannot be ignored.
This past year has seen global lockdowns, government neglect, health crises, proliferation of authoritarian regimes, endemic exploitation of labor, escalating corporate greed, worsening poverty, racism and exclusion, the grave ongoing destruction and pillaging of the environment for capital, as well as the deterioration of the climate. At the core of all of this is the injurious hold of patriarchy and misogyny ––on women’s rights and freedom.
We have seen more rapes, more domestic violence, more abuse, more exploitation, more trafficking, more hunger and death, more political persecution, more restrictions on freedom and mobility, more forced migration, more femicide, more loss of reproductive rights, and more and more violence. The violence of discrimination, of exclusion, of poverty, of inequality, of occupation, of exploitation, of suppression, of displacement, of oppression, of control has been severe and unrelenting.
WHEN ALL WOMEN AND GIRLS FEEL SAFE IN THEIR BODIES, THEY COME INTO THEIR POWER, SEXUALITY, JOY, CREATIVITY AND ENERGY.
WOMEN’S BODIES HOLD ENTIRE COMMUNITIES IN NURTURANCE AND CARE, KEEPING THEM ALIVE AGAINST ALL ODDS.
THIS YEAR WE RISE FOR A FUTURE WHERE ALL WOMEN AND GIRLS AND THE EARTH FLOURISH IN A JOYFUL SYMBIOSIS.

On SOCIAL MEDIA create content and images that empower the body, that get to know the body, that find a language of love, compassion and celebration of the body.
With DANCE create spaces for intentional and sensual dancing, hold ecstatic dance events with no choreography, and use dance to reclaim life force, sensuality, sexuality, eros and wildness.
Through VISUAL ART, photos, images, digital art, painting,.reimagine the body. Visualise what a body looks like that is free, that has agency, sovereignty, dignity and respect.
Create immersive, participatory THEATER that centres visceral, intuitive movement – no longer using our current stories of oppression and violence, but finding a physical experience that inhabits a world where the body is alive and free.
Then connect the BODY and the EARTH through these artistic expressions by creating, holding, filming, capturing them inside NATURE, particularly in earth spaces you want to reclaim: the sea, mountains, rivers, forests, public parts. Use ritual, community and nature to explore the body of the earth and the body as nature. Set your art form outdoors, in the beauty, wildness and vastness of the earth – and use music, rhythm, chants, drumming, your hands and bodies to touch and celebrate the earth.
Change the narrative from the current to the future.
Subvert our current paradigms and expectations of the body and the earth with art.
Create revolutionary art that fires and awakens the senses.

Krieg ist Krieg. Mensch ist Mensch. Bomben machen keinen Unterschied zwischen Hautfarbe, Religion oder Staatszugehörigkeit. Gegen die Trennung in „gute“ und „schlechte“ Flüchtende.
Zum internationalen Aktionstag gegen Rassismus fordern wir von der österreichischen Regierung ein Ende der unmenschlichen Asylpolitik und entschiedene Maßnahmen gegen Diskriminierung und Rassismus. Die Plattform für eine menschliche Asylpolitik lädt am Freitag, 18. März 2022 um 17:00 Uhr zur Demo am Wiener Karlsplatz. In vielen Städten, von Athen über Johannesburg bis New York, werden Menschen unter dem Hashtag #WorldAgainstRacism auf die Straße gehen.
Hier ein Auszug der Rede:
Ich bin heute hier als Vertreterin von der Plattform 20000 Frauen, OBRA – One Billion Rising Austria, eine künstlerische Kampagne für ein Ende der Gewalt an Frauen* und Mädchen* und von Mehr für CARE! Alle drei feministische Bewegungen sind strikt gegen Rassismus, Diskriminierung wie Ungleichbehandlung und jegliche Form von Gewalt.
Aber warum müssen wir extra den Fokus auf Frauen legen? Wir Frauen engagieren uns, sind pro-aktiv in zivilgesellschaftlichen Bewegungen, aber wenn es spezifisch um unsere Themen geht, werden wir meist viel weniger beachtet!
Zum Beispiel – Frauen auf der Flucht: sie haben es meist ungleich schwerer und sind viel mehr von Gewalt betroffen, sei es in Form von Sexismus oder sexueller Übergriffe auf der Flucht oder im Asyl, wo sie häufig als ungeschützte und extrem schlecht bezahlte Putzkraft, Haushaltshilfe oder Pflegekraft ausgebeutet oder zur Sexarbeit gezwungen werden.
Zum Beispiel – Frauen auf der Flucht: sie haben es meist ungleich schwerer und sind viel mehr von Gewalt betroffen, sei es in Form von Sexismus oder sexueller Übergriffe auf der Flucht oder im Asyl, wo sie häufig als ungeschützte und extrem schlecht bezahlte Putzkraft, Haushaltshilfe oder Pflegekraft ausgebeutet oder zur Sexarbeit gezwungen werden.
Oder im Bereich – Pflege: 80% der in Österreich arbeitenden Menschen im Pflegebereich sind weiblich und davon sind bis zu 20% Migrant*innen.
Es ist rassistisch wenn Asylwerber*innen abgeschoben werden oder nicht in ihren ausgebildeten Berufen arbeiten dürfen, aber dafür wird Pflegepersonal aus dem Ausland geholt – dafür sind sie sind gut genug, und dass, weil der Staat seiner Fürsorgepflicht nicht nachkommt und diesen Berufszweig nicht besser honoriert und somit attraktiver macht. Zudem kommt es sehr häufig zu rassistischen Übergriffen, vor allem gegenüber People of Color.
Mehr für CARE! ist ein Bündnis für eine gerechte Wirtschaft, besonders in den Bereichen Pflege, Frauenrechte und Gewaltschutz, Umwelt und Bildung. In all diesen Bereichen ist die Ausbeutung und Ungleichbehandlung wie Rassismus in dem patriarchal kapitalistischen System immanent und dagegen müssen wir aufstehen!

Das Programm ist schon fertig und wir freuen uns, dass wir sowohl Künstler*innen vom allerersten Mal wie die Tänzerin Karin Label aus Haiti, die Sängerinnen Margaret Carter und Aminata Seydi oder Künstler*innen wie Maren Rahmann, Kitana Project, Larissa Breitenegger, starsky, oder Gruppierungen wie EsRAP und DanceAbility, die uns durch die ganzen Jahre hindurch immer wieder mit ihren Beiträgen unterstützt haben, aber auch wunderbare Neuzugänge, wie die Trommler*innen Maracatu Nossa Luz oder Peta Klotzberg für dieses Jubiläumsevent gewinnen konnten.

Hill, Adrienne Hurd, Dominique Jackson, Saru Jayaraman, Agnes Pareyio, Martha Redbone, Caelyn Osborn, Emma Thompson, Madina Wardak, and Terry Tempest Williams.
